Splinterlands Rentals are LIVE!

It's been a day for great news with Splinterlands. First, there were two big victories last night. A story about our Twitter ban was published by well-known crypto news source News.Bitcoin.com. The publication of this story was very closely followed by the sudden reinstatement of our official Twitter account. The community apparently made a reasonable amount of noise over the last 6 days to make a difference in the situation's outcome. Without the constant and unwavering community support for #freesplinterlands, we never could have gathered the attention necessary to have our suspension reversed, so thank you.

As mentioned late last week, the highly anticipated rental system update has gone live on Splinterlands.com. Now on the market page, you'll see multiple tabs which include not only Sales and Rentals, but coming soon tabs for both Land and "Other" (totems, titles, etc.). If you're not seeing the updates, simply refresh the page and they should be there.

For the full details of this update, including technical specifics of blockchain transactions involved, check out the OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT POST from the SPLINTERLANDS blog.

Simpler than Ever

The ability to rent and lease Splinterlands cards using smart contracts is not entirely new to the game, but this new system (essentially Rentals 2.0) allows cards to be rented through the Splinterlands site on a daily basis for Dark Energy Crystals. In the past, players would have to deposit crypto into their Peakmonsters accounts and navigate through a more complex system to achieve the same results. Now rentals are easily accessible to everyone, and the initial rental prices of cards are looking extremely reasonable to anyone looking to play on a budget without building their own extensive collection.

Rather than selecting and purchasing a collection of cards on the market, players can now experiment with a wider variety of cards as long as they have a small pile of Dark Energy Crystals to pay for the daily rentals. They can then change their mind on which cards to rent each day if they choose. They can even base that day's rented cards on the specific Daily Quest they're currently facing. Any way you break it down, Splinterlands just got a lot more accessible to players looking to play for rewards without a collection, and for players looking to try before they buy.

How Much Does Renting Cost?

The prices of rentals will always be fluctuating, but here is an example of the process of renting a Summoner on the first day of the new system, broken down into numbers and compared to buying the same card.

Let's look at Vera Selacia, the Rare DICE Summoner.

The cheapest single BCX (level 1) Vera that can currently be rented has a cost of .12 DEC per day, or roughly $0.00012. The same card would cost you a minimum of about $0.50 to purchase, but with the rental system you have the option of playing with it for a cost of just over one hundredth of a cent per day. With rental prices like that, players will be able to build formidable rented collections with relatively small piles of DEC for spending. And many of those players will be able to earn rewards from playing whose value is greater than the DEC they are spending on the rentals.

Pro-Tip: Cards can be listed for rent in bulk through the updated Rental page at Peakmonsters.com.
