Splinterlands | What the DAO Should Do With Rebellion Packs!

With Rebellion released for  packs were removed from rewards but the DAO is getting a part of the burned packs each day which they can do with what they want. Here are some ideas...

DAO Rebellion Packs

So by now, it looks like the DAO has 38152 Packs which combined at ~4$ equals 152k Dollars of value the the current price they are going for on the secondary market. While this isn't a significant amount, it kind of increases each day and at some point they can be put to use either to reward player by giving more incentives for players to invest, they can be opened and used to onboard new players or even sold to give the DAO revenue to use going forward.

#1 Give Packs As Rewards

It really sucks that Rebellion cards are not part of the Chests and during the Chaos Legion Era, these were a large part of the ROI and a ton of fun as it was possible to gradually get more cards and build your collection. The only real value reward right now is SPS. The soulbound reward cards were fun at the start but by now they also kind of feel like useless and worthless unless it's a legendary or Epic which still needs to be leveled. The Potions are completely worthless since there are so many of them that even pack buyers have too many of them. This leaves the rewards from playing the game rather underwhelming and also not so fun.

Adding Packs in a Fun & Sustainable Way: Often times it's not so much about how much value you get from the rewards but more about how fun the rewards are and that is lacking at the moment. Getting packs always gave some adrenaline rush which is completely gone right now.

Something that the game is missing is something that works with a progression bar and a goal to work toward. Earning chests could easily be done this way if they were split up in Pack Shards of which you need 10 or so in order to convert them into a real pack. Part of the Potions could be replaced by these shards so on a regular basis these could pop up

What this does is:

  • Have a goal to work toward: Progress bars and having something to work toward similar to leveling up cards simply is a fun mechanic
  • Give Incentives To Keep Playing: Players most of the time will be partly on their way to unlocking the next pack so they want to keep playing
  • Soulbound rewards: These Pack shards should be soulbound so it's hard to milk and dump them for players or bots al lower levels.
  • Incentives for New Players: As part of the Spellbook, 2 or 3 shards can be included in the account so it easier for players to set a goal to at least get 1 pack which should increase the retention.
  • Lower Amount of Packs Given Out: Even at a 30% rate of packs given out compared to the old ways, it still will feel like you are getting way more rewards since these shards are something you want to open from a chest unlike potions.

#2 Open to improve Onboarding

This was something that was done with Chaos Legion cards for Niftyarcade which seems to be something that flopped. The rewards in the game right now simply aren't high enough in order for players to lease out decks getting a part of the rewards from it as returns.

There recently was a proposal to burn the Nifty Cards which failed and I'm not sure what is done with them right now. So I don't think opening packs to use the cards to onboard new players is the best option.

#3 Sell For DAO Profit

I would not mind if packs were sold by the DAO in order to get some actual reserves that are not DEC which can't really be used for anything. Actually, it could be somewhat of a loophole as if the DAO sells the packs, it means less get bough and more get burned meaning the DAO gets more packs daily. They could be sold for Stablecoins / BTC / or SPS in order to increase the war chest of the DAO in those holdings.

#4 Reward to SPS Holders

Another option would be to reward packs to SPS holders which would increase the demand and give nice benefits to both players who hold SPS or investors who are looking for returns.

#5 Hold onto Them For Later

This at this point probably is the best option as right now the game doesn't really seem to need more packs to be put in circulation. Also the lower the price of SPS stays right now, the more gets burned.

If anything, I would really like to see a mechanic in the game where there is a progress bar and a goal to work toward more. Packs getting split into shards which get included in the Reward Chests would be a fun extra giving incentives for players to always work toward the next one. Regardless what happens, I'm sure the DAO will vote on the best thing that can be done with them over time.
