Splinterland - Battle Mage Secrets: Odd Ones Out!

Do repost and rate:

Good day everyone I hope you all are doing well and welcome back to my SPLINTERLANDS Blog, it's time again to write some articles to further fund my Splinterlands deck.

This weeks Battle Mage Secrets challenge is about the Odd Ones Out ruleset, to find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, you can read the Splinterlands post here.

The Odd Ones Out ruleset is, like the Evens Stevens ruleset we had not long ago not really a ruleset where I have a certain strategy for, and it's more like a secondary ruleset and most of the times it gets combines with 1 or 2 more rulesets so it's more like one extra obstacle we have to cope with. It's just like the game says 'you can't use half your deck - good luck with it' ??.

The name of the ruleset can be interpreted in two ways so the name choosing could be better in my opinion: are the odd ones out, so they're not available to be selected, or are they out on the battlefield?

Good thing the explanation does a better job:

Only units with odd mana costs may be used.

Summoners are not affected by this rule.

For the second week in a row, I have saved a battle where I used Grandmaster Rathe, but that's more of a coincidence. This week's battle is a 47 mana Wild League Super Sneak / Odd Ones Out battle, where only the Water splinter is locked out, so plenty of choice, funny me and my opponent went for the same summoner. And like I said, I played this battle just as any other Super Sneak battle but with one arm on my back because half my deck is locked out - good thing my opponent has the same problem.

First look at the battlefield:

Both the same summoner, I have higher level cards, this difference does matter a lot! my tank has self heal where my opponent needed to bring a separate healer and my Barbarian has Retaliate,it's always nice to bring Adelaide Brightwing with repair but you can't have it all so I decided not to bring her this time. My magic protection wasn't necessary after all but better safe than sorry!

My Line-Up:

  • : Grandmaster Rathe - reason: +1 Void Armor
  • First position: Imperial Knight - reason: Good damage, self heal, 14 hit points.
  • Second position: Iziar - reason: To counter magic with taunt / void.
  • Third position: Spirit Hoarder - reason: To heal Iziar, taunt / heal works great.
  • Fourth position: Crystal Werewolf - reason: Silence, works nicely with void against magic teams.
  • Fifth position: Jared Scar - reason: High damage, bloodlust.
  • Sixth position: Drybone Barbarian - reason: High damage with enrage, retaliate makes him very dangerous.

The Battle:

Not much happened yet, my Iziar and the enemy Barbarian took some hits that's all.

Iziar died because the enemy Barbarian simply did too much damage to out heal, but then the enemy Barbarian was killed too.

Spirit Hoarder's job isn't over yet, it's now healing my Barbarian, and while it cancels the enrage, it also makes it survive longer and able to retaliate more. Jared got a kill so it's bloodlust got triggered.

The demoralize is gone, so full damage now, 2 vs. 5 so this won't take long.

One more down, Imperial Knight is the last one standing, it looks good though, in Gold Foil!

At the start of round 6, Jared Scar finished him off, another win for me, and it's welcome, winning is hard!

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

That's it for this weeks Battle Mage Secrets post... I'll probably make my Social Media Challenge post later today because it's 30 degrees outside, way too hot for me, so I'm hiding inside when I can lol, according to my wife, I'm a vampire - not liking bright light and the sun ??
