The Solana blockchain experienced an outage lasting roughly 6 hours on Dec. 4, as revealed by the team in a blog post.
- The Solana mainnet beta cluster stopped producing blocks at approximately 13:46 UTC, which stopped new transactions from being confirmed
- The team began working with network validators to issue a restart of the network; by 19:46, over 80% of validators had agreed to restart the network and activity resumed
- The team has identified the cause of the outage, though it has not published the details yet
- Launched by FTX and used in its Serum DEX, Solana is a competitor to Ethereum and is said to be a faster and cheaper alternative, with a throughput of 65,000 transactions per second
