Road to Runi - Update 9 | Splinterlands #312

It would be naive to start this SPLINTERLANDS update discussing the Rebellion update we received at the splinterlands Town Hall this week. The splinterlands team now under the sole guidance and leadership of Yabapmatt published a massive update about the new Rebellion set

There is a lot to unpack, and the Rebellion set will introduce lots to the splinterlands game:

  • The Untamed set will move into Wild to make way for the new Rebellion set in Modern.
  • The card designs and aesthetic have been changed and I quite like it.
  • The splinterlands team will introduce a daily burn mechanism for the Rebellion set.
  • New gameplay mode into battles where the new summoners will present players with an ability choice.
  • New abilities will be introduced with the Rebellion set.
  • New airdrops mechanics to benefit the player base.
  • And more.

With the recent splinterlands layoff announcement, company restructurings and the transparency around the 6-month runway that the splinterlands team has – it makes sense that they had to push Rebellion set as a priority to secure additional funding from the Rebellion set pre-sale. What does this mean for the Land 1.5 release? Will it still come out by the end of October, or will it shift towards the end of the year now?

While I am excited about the Rebellion set and the new mechanics, I hope this will provide the splinterlands team enough runway to continue to operate and survive during this long-lasting bear market. And the bear market looks like it's set to continue with down almost 5% in the past 7 days.

While the rest of the market is reeling from another price decrease, the splinterlands token market has been rallying since the news of the Rebellion set announcement. DEC and Vouchers saw substantial increases -> $0.863 per 1k DEC and $0.0316 Vouchers.

Hindsight bias aside, I am glad I continued to Dollar Cost Average (DCA) into DEC during these challenges (Land and Runi) as the Runi fund is now starting to benefit from these DEC price fluctuations. This past week, I have added another 6k DEC to the Runi fund and the Runi fund is just under $300 so things are starting to look much healthier.

Runi Market

It is always difficult to tell whether changes or updates in the splinterlands ecosystem will have ripple-down effects on the Runi market. With the Rebellion set update, I would assume that would have hurt the price of Runis as it means that the Land 1.5 release will be further delayed. And yes, I was partly right as the price of Runis has reached a new low floor price of 0.332 ($517.23) since I started tracking their prices for this challenge.

However, the sales activity for Runis in the past week increased by more than 100%. The sales range fluctuated between 0.33 ($514.11) and 2 ($3181.14). On one hand, you could say the increased activity is a result of players selling out as they are frustrated with the Land 1.5 release delays but the other perspective is that players are excited and therefore we seeing increased demands – who knows?

The hope is that as long as splinterlands can survive this bear market and not go bankrupt, then over the long-term I should be able to reap some on the Runi and Land investments
