Welcome today to the introduction to Polkadot . This is a 4 part educational series . The main objective of this series is to explain the network in the most understandable and memorable way possible. That's why I have broken it done into 4 parts. The information contained in this series is to much for only one or two articles . It was the idea of giving less information on a regular basis would help with the retaining of information and that being the objective would be the most wanted result.

Polkadot is a platform that gives non-blockchain systems or data structures the ability to become apart of the parachain.
Polkadot is hetrogeneaus because it is entirely flexible. It has also not the true nature and structure of the chains in the network, consisting of many parachains with potentially differing characteristics.
Polkadot allows blockchains to transfer messages, value, information I a trust-free fashion sharing their unique features while pooling their security. The network provides a Relay-chain upon which a large number of verifiable data structures can be hosted. These data structures are called "parallised" chains or parachains.

Polkadot is the flagship project be Web3 foundation. Web3 foundation is a Swiss foundation founded to facilitate a fully functional an user friendly decentralised web. Web3 provides necessary grants for the development of the eco system.

The network can transfer this data across public, open, permissionless and private permissioned Blockchains. For example it can take data from a private permissioned academic records chain of a school. Take the requested data and send a proof of qualifications to a degree-verification smart contract on a public chain.
