PFPs on WAX

Hi, I'm Byron from Canada and I draw Zombies. It's not 100% unique or original, but it's what I do.

I also make NFTs out of my artwork and mint most of them on the WAX blockchain. The reason for this is the developers on the WAX blockchain are pretty cool with making their products available for public use.

And they work hard.

One of the newest tools in the WAX ecosystem, from NFTHive.io, allows creators the ability to build their own PFPs or generative Art projects (gAps) without needing to code. All you need to know how to do is make your art into layers and make sure every layer has exactly the same dimensions.

My First attempt at the PFP machine was with a Creepy Candy Corn.

This was very simple and just used a static body, 2 eyes and a mouth layer.

You can still mint your own Creepy Candy Corn https://nfthive.io/drop/nfthivedrops/2044

The next PFP was a little more complex and made just for fun for Valentines day 2023.

You can no longer mint this PFP but you can see the rankings here: https://nfthive.io/drop/nfthivedrops/2044

This one featured 5 layers with multiple options per layer.

Now I really wanted to explore how complex I could make a PFP. I had seen so many on the ETH blockchain and they all looked pretty much the same. A head, with features. That's cool and all, but what about landscapes and stuff? This was my first taste of making a generative art project, with mushrooms. I went so complex that it was to complex so I had to combine some layers and bring down the number of variants that could be made.

The drop has ended but you can still check the rankings and the layers here: https://nfthive.io/drop/nfthivedrops/2560 . Putting the artwork and all the different layers for this one took a heck of a long time, and like most projects, as I started working on it I had more ideas and

Another PFP I put together was for Monica and her wonderful bug artwork. This was hella fun to put together and a nice break from the complexity that the mushroom PFP turned out to be.

For this one I worked with her to come up with the design and artwork used for this. All of Monica's artwork is hand crafted with coloured pencils or pastels. It was a lot of fun and the public really enjoyed the wide variety of artwork inside the frame, and on it too. You can still mint one of these here: https://nfthive.io/drop/nfthivedrops/2660

Next up, I thought it would be neat to try allowing people to collect a whole set of art AS a PFP. So instead of making a pack and letting people open packs to try to collect them all, be different. It was met with some success and when the NFTHive ranking system for PFPs was noticed, it picked up a lot. People like to collect PFPs, especially when the price is right. With the blobs, I priced them for DHC, which is a coin that can be earned just by showing up in the Horde's Discord daily and doing a task.

You can buy a Blob with $DHC here: https://nfthive.io/drop/nfthivedrops/2625

I had a blend for this but there was an error and I still haven't gone and fixed it. I should do that soon and then come back here and update this page to link to that blend.

After the bugs and blobs came the My Zickle Army PFP which actually turned into more of an generative Art project, or gAp. This project featured as many Zickles as I could put together before I lost interest or something shiney and new caught my eye. There are Zickles from the earliest times to the most recent ones in this project, and they collage well together. Lots of different layers and options.

You can mint one and join the Zickle Army https://nfthive.io/drop/nfthivedrops/2811

These were a lot of fun to put together but even more fun to read peoples responses and reactions to getting some weird looking zombie pickles.

Now I wanted to make a generative art project that could help me put a lot of Zombie Cats out into the metaverse. I had made some 9 zombie cat collage images before, why not a gAp ? 8 black and white zombie cat sketches surrounding a full colour zombie cat. I really enjoyed revisiting some of these artworks, which date back 10+ years.

You can still mint some zombie cats too, but it ends soon. https://nfthive.io/drop/nfthivedrops/2961

My most recent gAp is an exploration of layers, transparencies and animation.

Yes, animated PFP as a Generative ART Project, and I called it a Chaotic Twitch

I was talking with the developers on NFTHive.io about how to make an animated PFP and after some discussion about the different variables that ned to be in place to make this work, I got started. The original idea was to have a bunch of layers to make an abstract(ish) zombie/skull head but that's going to take more planning than I had time for. I'm still exploring that idea, but in the meantime I really wanted to get an animated PFP out into the world. The response has been great and there was only a small hiccup. Still time to mint? Maybe - check it here https://nfthive.io/drop/nfthivedrops/3075

So that's my PFP collection so far. WAX and the developers that are building on it really have thought about what the creators want and they build it for us to use ... for nearly FREE (small % of sale). This is what makes the WAX blockchain so cool and why it is my favourite so far.

Until next time, praise the Horde!
