How to start playing?

To start creating a character first log in to your account or create one if you don't have one yet. If you're a new player, you get one character for free to start with and 300 Neon free to buy three more characters.

Linking a Blockchain Wallet

If you choose, you can link an Ethereum mainnet wallet such as METAMASK or Portis together with your account. All funds that have come through the portal are stored in your assigned Matic wallet that is merged with your account, only you can move the materials to your mainnet wallet using the move button and by paying the gas fee if you choose. Click on the profile button at the top right to link your wallet.

From here, you can click on the wallets tab to view all of your linked wallets. If you have not previously linked a wallet to your account, you will only see your assigned custodial wallet for your account.

Buy Neon

In order to buy Gear Crates, you first need Neon. This is the game currency for Neon District. Click on the BUY NEON tab in the upper right corner to get this then. From here you can view the options of how much Neon you want to buy. Checkout can be done by credit card or ETH (with a connected web3 wallet such as Metamask or Portis). The Neon will arrive in your account once the checkout process is complete.

Buy characters

Characters can be added with supplies. Every player gets one free character for their account at the start and with the free 300 Neon, you can buy three more characters. You can go to the next chapter if you temporarily don't plan to buy more characters. Click the get characters button on the dashboard to take an additional character.

Each character costs 100 Neon and there are 6 different types to select from. On the menu, each character is generally described with their strengths and weaknesses. You can switch between a male and female gender by clicking on the gender button above the character. After your purchase the gender can be changed, so don't worry about what you set the gender to before you buy the character. Once you have made a purchase you will see a success message. From here you can purchase another character by clicking the button on the top right or you can continue managing the character.

Buying materials

Now that you have purchased Neon, you will probably want to buy materials to upgrade your character. Click on the GET GEAR button on the dashboard to do this.

Buy treasure chest

Each treasure chest costs 500 Neon and gives you 4 random items of common and phenomenal branding, as described in the Loot Rates table below. Click a button for how many treasuries you want to buy or enter a custom number at the top. If you choose a larger amount than the number of Neon you have, you will be prompted to buy more Neon.

Once you have chosen the number of chests you want to buy, click on the BUY treasure chests button at the top right. On the next page, you will see what each chest contains. If you bought more than one box you can click on open next in the upper right corner to view the boxes one by one. Or you can click on ALL SHOW to open them all at once.

How do I place materials on my character?

Now that you have materials and a character, you can start putting together your character. Click on the level up button for characters to do this. Choose one of your characters to make saved.

On this page, you can see that the characters are currently at level 1 and you can see all of their current stats and maps. If you click on the BIO button the materials, name, and gender will appear. (There will soon be an update that will allow players to give their character a name and gender that can be changed again later). Click on the materials button at the top to add supplies.

Prepare materials

From here you can click on the type of material you want to prepare (head, body, arms, legs, and weapon) at the top right, and at the bottom, you will see all the materials that are available for you to use. Now your last character has been prepared with materials.

Upgrading characters and materials

Now that you have prepared your first character you can start upgrading the character or their materials by using juices or parts. To get started, each new account gets 10 free juice. That's enough on the character to lead to level 4. Go to the dashboard and click on the buy juice or parts come button to get additional juice or parts.

Buying juice/parts

From this page, you can select how much juice/parts you want to buy and you can verify the transaction if you have enough Neon. Now that you have juice/parts you can begin upgrading your character and materials. Click on the level button on the character dashboard to upgrade a level.

Choose the character you want to upgrade. On the next screen, you can upgrade your character to a higher level by clicking on the level button. You will be asked to confirm the upgrade process on the next screen if you have enough juice.

Now that you have started the upgrade process, you will be shown three randomly selected changes for your character to improve maps and character stats. You will have a chance to review your choices on the page below before making your final choice and you can make further changes if necessary.

Improving character statistics

If you choose to improve stats, you will go to the final review page where you will see the changes made to your character stats and where you will be asked to confirm these changes, as they are permanent once you click complete.

If you choose a card improvement, before you go to the rating page you will first be asked to choose which of the 10 cards currently given to your character you want to trade with. When you are satisfied with your changes click on the verification bar at the bottom. This confirms that you have read the review and then click the complete button in the upper right corner to make this change permanent.

Improving Protection/Weapons

The procedure for improving protection and weapons is similar to the procedure for improving characters, except that it uses parts to improve instead of juices. If you have parts in your account, click the level up button for protection or weapons on the dashboard to start the enhancement procedure.

On the next page, find the part you want to improve and then select it. After this, you can see the current statistics and maps of parts and you can click on the level button (and see the cost of the parts). You will be asked to confirm the upgrade process on the next screen if you have enough juice. Now that you have started the upgrade process, you will be shown 3 randomly selected changes for your character to improve stats and maps.

If you choose to improve stats, you will go to the final review page where you will see the changes to your character stats and where you will be asked to confirm these changes as they will be permanent once you click complete.

If you choose a card improvement, before going to the assessment page you will be asked to choose which of the 10 cards currently given to your character you want to trade with.

When you are happy with your changes click on the verification bar at the bottom. This will confirm that you have read the review and then click the finish button in the top right corner to make this change permanent.

What's the next step?

Your Neon District experience is now up and running! The biggest part of this gameplay experience comes over the next ten weeks: player-to-player fights. Battles allow you to use your characters in a battle against your friends, enemies, and other players worldwide. You fight for the top of the leaderboard. Until this is life, there are some important things you can do now with your characters and materials. It's all about the naturalness of real ownership of blockchain items: trading.

Transferring coins from Matic to Ethereum

You can take your coins from your custodial account on the Matic sidechain to the Ethereum mainnet, where you can sell your characters on OpenSea, trade them with others or just keep your most precious Neon District parts in your own Ethereum wallet. Transferring coins to Ethereum is a procedure that consists of several steps. First, you need to choose the character you want to transfer.

Once everything is set up, you can begin the coin transfer process. Behind the scenes, your custodial account signs two transactions and submits them to Matic mainnet. The first is the coin approval transaction and the second is the actual deposit for the Transfer Gateway contract.

New possibilities

Recently, the roadmap was released from the Neon District Portal for desktop and mobile. They have an all-new site for the Neon District Portal, laying the groundwork for a full desktop and mobile gaming experience that will be rapidly rolling out in the coming months. Also, Neon District is now fully live on Matic's Ethereum layer-two blockchain. Neon District requires zero knowledge of blockchain and no cryptocurrency to create an account and prepare to play completely free. Play practice battles first to gain experience.

For the first time, fully animated character outfitting is live: you can grab your loot and equip all your characters, watch their stats change, and start preparing your characters for the battle that is soon to come. Characters, protection, and weapons can be transferred directly to and from the Ethereum mainnet via the custom Transfer Gateway, so you can bring your exceptional parts to Ethereum, keep them in your own wallet, or post and sell them on third-party NFT markets like OpenSea.

You can buy treasure chests and start collecting rare parts, place them on characters and upgrade them. The full leveling experience is now live on the Portal, allowing players to upgrade their characters, protection, and weapons to level 5 prior to battle.

So what are you waiting for? Create your new account and start playing!
