NFT Fantasy Soccer Game - GameOn

In this post I will look at the recent news from the fantasy sports platform Game On, who have established a partnership with the Spanish football league LaLiga to create Web3 games for players in the US and Canada.

They paint themselves as a company who partner with the world’s biggest sports, media, and entertainment companies to launch brand building and money making NFT games. With a diverse team of web3, sports, entertainment and gaming veterans from companies like Take-Two Interactive, EA Sports, Dapper Labs, BSE Global, and Madison Square Garden, the experience is clearly visible with the team. The company is a publicly listed technology company and their main basis is building non-fungible token (NFT) based games, along with predictive gaming, and fantasy products. 

They have announced a recent deal with LaLigaNorthAmerica on Wednesday the 13th of September 2023, which according to the press release means the Web3 company will be launching a fantasy game based on real-world LALIGA players and matches. The CEO for GameOn, Matt Bailey, noted that the announcement signals a new era for the company. They stated:

"Fans will be immersed in a soccer experience like never before - collecting playable avatars, customizing and equipping gear, and playing in various game modes like Live Fantasy, PvP Battles, and Quests."

With this new NFT fantasy game fans will be in a position to win exclusive prizes, including signed merchandise, VIP tickets, meet-and-greets, and even cash. LaLiga will also make sure to promote these games during in-stadium events, at watch parties, on social media, apps, the website, and email. GameOn have made it clear they will be aiming to pursue further "meaningful relationships" with major leagues and they are confident of securing several new partnerships in the coming months.

GameOn has already partnered with and launched games on Polygon and Hedera, while it has other partners such as NBCUniversal, Bravo, PFL, Karate Combat, the WNBA, Times Internet, DICK'S Sporting Goods, and Gaming Society. They aim to create and innovate with fan engagement through games and web3.

According to CEO Matt Bailey:

"GameOn can handle the entire stack of NFT creation, minting, and gamification. The company is focused on major league opportunities that leverage our scalable PLAYN3XT platform and drive highly-profitable revenue growth. LALIGA is our execution in action."

LALIGA North America

A joint venture between LALIGA and sports media company Relevent Sports, LALIGA North America has an exclusive representation of the football league in the US, Canada, and Mexico for all commercial and development activities. LALIGA North America CEO Boris Gartner also commented, noting that the league's priority is connecting and engaging with fans across different platforms and products. The partnership with GameOn will allow the audience to interact with clubs and players in ways they have never been able to before.

LaLiga organises the top flight in Spanish domestic football, LALIGA EA SPORTS, which comprises a total of 20 football clubs. These include the likes of FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico de Madrid, and Sevilla FC. LaLiga is also the operator of Spain's second division competition, LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which features 22 teams.

Overall there is a global community of over 200 million fans across 17 platforms in 20 different languages according to the press release. With a global audience of over 2.8 billion, LaLiga has 90 media partners in more than 180 territories. Both GameOn and LaLiga will be hoping for wider audience participation and recognition from this partnership.
