New Gamefi Meta: Web3 Overlayers

Do repost and rate:

Anyone's who's ever heard the expression there's levels to this shit knows... there's... levels... ummm...

Well anyway, there's too in web3 gaming. I call it the Web3 Overlayer because the projects that do it right allow for added benefits for web3 participants without disturbing the web2 experience. The Overlayer is an overlooked meta (actually it's not; I'm covering it and I'm the only person who matters), but when it catches on with the web3 loud crowd that [for whatever stupid reason] all the investors listen to, these projects are going to the moon. Here's why and which projects you should be eyeing for the move up.

What is an Overlayer?

The Web3 Overlayer is a blanket on top of a gaming "bed." You can sleep just fine in the bed without a blanket, but the blanket definitely adds another layer of comfort and perhaps even a heightened sleep experience.

Web3 Overlayers in gaming allow for anyone involved in web3 to gain additional benefit, tokenized for convenience and flexibility. The additional payment comes in addition to any income the player is already earning — streaming, sponsorship, skill based — with no need to seek permission from the layers below itself.

E.g., a player can easily earn the $NEOXA token by simply playing Fortnite without a need for the Neoxa project to integrate with Fortnite in any official way. All the player needs to do is sign up for the Neoxa Overlayer, and the additional stream of income/benefits comes right along with everything else!

Why Web3 Overlayers are Important

Overlayers represent a permissionless way to add value to any game. Because web3 benefits can be added without an official integration with the core game, web3 can easily bridge itself into web2 gaming using the IP that traditional gamers are already familiar with.

The best Overlayer projects are adding web3 functionality to familiar IPs including Minecraft, Roblox and Fortnite. However, projects like Satoxcoin ($SATOX) give great indie games added exposure by focusing on lesser known IPs distributed on Steam.

The Projects to Watch

XCAD Network is an Overlayer project that allows you to earn tokens for watching content on your favorite video distribution channel. In include it in the gaming section because the project seems to have a genuine love and focus on web3 gamers and gaming content.

— The Neoxa project adds a Web3 Overlayer to some of gaming's biggest IPs including Rust, GTA RP, Dota 2 and Fortnite. If you're a Twitch streamer, Neoxa has you covered with a simple sign up that gets you earning with no added hassle. You can also earn from staking 1,000,000 tokens and running a node.

— We touched on this in a previous article. The Overlayer aspect of this project comes from investing in the project itself (you earn tokens directly from the reach the Fortnite maps get) and map building, if that's your thing.

— Similar to $UEFN, just for Roblox. The project is called Metablox, and we touched on it in this

— The aforementioned Satoxcoin creates an economy around a huge number of games on Steam. Sign up, hook in your Steam account, and get paid in $SATOX to be an explorer of new games. Who knows, you might get paid to discover the next Fortnite!

If I missed any, let me know in the comments!

Just like everything else in crypto, if you wait on the loudmouth influencers to tell you where the money is, you're too late anyway. By the time you hear Cagyjan or Jesus Martinez bring this meta to the web3 masses, they will have already pulled all of the benefit out of the meta, leaving their audience with scraps. Do your research on these projects now before the masses get in!
