In July 2018, when NEO was launched, they really where the second best to Ethereum network. But some newer, better blockchains were made, and slowly the problems start to appear for NEO. One, that the network is not decentralized, with only 7 consensus verification nodes, making it an easy target if somehow it came under attack. The head of development at NEO, described the 3.0 version as:
“a comprehensive stack, a platform that goes well beyond the chain.”
NEO and GAS tokens will remain the same, and the policy contract will stay unchanged. NEO 3.0 will use the Delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance as a method to verify blocks. New nodes will be introduced, and they will be elected via a voting process. Every transaction, once done, cannot be changed or reversed. The position in the cryptocurrencies top is 18 at the moment, but they are hoping to break the top 10 on the release of NEO 3.0. Will this happen? We will see.
