New patch updated 3.22 brings the expo, ship tractor beams, missions, ai updates, bug fixes, cloud and lighting tweeks. (Predominantly focused in atmosphere around major cities)
For the next 12 days can try out the persistent universe along with access to each of the top 10 fan voted ships. Can also check out the expo at new babbage on micro tech. Each day a new company will take host of the halls and offer their entire lineup of flyable ships and ground vehicles for a free 24 hour rental.
Next up on the road map is server meshing, Pyro, and flushing out multicrew gameplay with engineering. And fire!!!

Also of note aside from a game package and starter, all released ships and vehicles are purchasable in game. Which is certainly the recommended option.
