Level 7: I Tried Splinterlands…

Do repost and rate:

The entirety of this article can be summed up in two letters: “Eh.” But if you wish to proceed, and learn why, then by all means.

As usual I am not a financial advisor, I’m seeing a lot of this everywhere I look in regards to crypto for legal purposes and what not. Do your own research.

P.s. I’ve noticed around 5 A.M EST (my time zone) seems to be the most “profitable” time to post but furthermore, it seems to be the time I get the most feedback, whether it be up or down votes, comments, etc. I am really trying to get something in the works to form my own sort of community. I’m not sure how I’m going to go about it yet, or what platforms to use, but any success/failure stories regarding crypto, or community building, or NFT games… It would be so cool of you guys here on PUBLISH0X to walk this road with me. I know a size-able portion of you rarely even read these articles and usually skip to the tip slider (keep up the hustle y’all, no shame here, all jokes aside) but for me it’s all about the experience and the intellectually inclined friends I have the opportunity of making along this journey.

Anyways, back to Splinterlands. I tried it, and I’m continuing to try it here and there. I purchased the spell pack for a mere $10 USD and thought to myself “if it flops, oh well.” It flopped. Surely there is a better free-to-play/cheap mobile NFT game on here somewhere, right? I have had ZERO luck in that department. So for now, we’ll stick to this one for a little bit.

Splinterlands is an online multiplayer card-collecting/battling/upgrading game where players can choose their decks every match and fight it out to see who the better player is… sort of. If you are interested in playing the game, I will be linking the website below to help you get started. (No this is not a referral link, just a regular link to SPLINTERLANDS website.) Some of the starter cards/strategies seem incredibly under/over balanced/powered and the gameplay itself is less than pleasurable. There is however, a few guides I’ve been watching on how to make it out of the first few “leagues” in their ranking system regarding renting and buying cards from other players. It seems as though it’s incredibly pay-to-win in my eyes, and honestly I think that’s just frustrating for most people; myself included. The better cards you have, the more wins you get, the more wins you get, the more money you make, the more money you make, the better cards you have… see the pattern?

I’m aware that the whole aspect of a game like this is to be on top. Climbing the leaderboards, duking it out for the top prizes, that’s what competitive games are all about. But you lose a lot of people with the viscous “I have more money than you, therefore I win” cycle.

Now, I know there’s more that goes into it. Strategy is also key here, you can have the best cards in the history of the game, and simultaneously still be the worst player in the history of the game. I get that, I promise. But there are other ways to approach the card trading/earning aspect than this, surely?

Maybe I’m a critic now, and honestly I think that’s alright. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, so if you enjoy the game and are making decent returns off your investment, then all the more power to you! For me however, this one is falling down towards the lower ends of my list… for now. I’m going to keep learning more about it, see if I can come up with some different strategies and such and come back with a second review at some point, but for now… I’d give Splinterlands about a 4 out of 10. Logically/financially the game makes sense, if you only spend $10 to get in, the rewards can’t be all that crazy, right?

Surely I hope to find out. Stay tuned for more, if you’re interested. How about we blow this one out of the water fellow writers and readers?
