It Looks Like Uniswap Will Airdrop UNI to Third Party Users

Uniswap is about to see its second governance proposal succeed, as a governance decision to retroactively airdrop UNI tokens to third party users of the exchange comes to a close on October 31.

  • DeFi platform Dharma initiated a governance proposal to retroactively airdrop UNI tokens to users who accessed Uniswap via third party applications
  • If the proposal passes, users of MyEtherWallet, Argent, Dharma, DeFi Saver, Nuo, Eidoo, Opyn, Furucombo, Monolith, and Rebalance will receive 400 UNI tokens
  • 25,942,970 tokens have been staked in favour of the airdrop, while 1,269,062 have been staked against it; the voting deadline is 08:00 AM UTC on October 31
  • This is Uniswap’s second governance proposal, with the first one that aimed to reduce submission and quorum thresholds failing after falling shy of the minimum total votes by 1 million; some holders abstained from voting for fear of centralizing power
  • Some community members are convinced that an additional airdrop will devalue the token by resulting in users selling the token
  • Dharma has guaranteed it would not vote for any further retroactive airdrops should this one succeed
  • Uniswap had airdropped UNI tokens to those who had used the platform before the governance token was launched
  • There had been some discussion shortly after the airdrop about giving tokens to users who had used third party services like Dharma, whose users had complained that they had been left out
