Over the past 2yrs I've been looking into different cryptocurrencies and have came across a few unique & interesting projects. I've briefly researched the following list of cryptocurrencies & have summarized a brief description of each project.
Chainlink (LINK): [#21 $7.41]
Blockchain abstraction layer that enables universally connected smart contracts. Through a decentralized oracle network, Chainlink allows blockchains to securely interact with external data feeds, events and payment methods, providing the critical off-chain information needed by complex smart contracts to become the dominant form of digital agreement.
Filecoin (FIL):
Decentralized storage system that aims to “store humanity’s most important information", & 1st described as an incentive layer for the Interplanetary File System (IPFS), a peer-to-peer storage network. Unlike cloud storage companies like Amazon Web Services or Cloudflare, which are prone to the problems of centralization, Filecoin leverages its decentralized nature to protect the integrity of a data’s location, making it easily retrievable and hard to censor.
TheGraph (GRT):
Indexing protocol for querying data for networks like Ethereum and IPFS, powering many applications in both DeFi and the broader Web3 ecosystem.
Helium (HNT):
Decentralized blockchain-powered network for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Nodes come in the form of so-called Hotspots, which are a combination of a wireless gateway and a blockchain mining device. Users who operate nodes thus mine and earn rewards in Helium’s native cryptocurrency token, HNT. Helium aims to improve the communication capabilities of wireless Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Its core appeal will be to device owners and those interested in the IoT space, with financial incentives providing further outreach possibilities.
Celo (CELO):
Blockchain ecosystem focused on increasing cryptocurrency adoption among smartphone users. By using phone numbers as public keys, Celo hopes to introduce the world’s billions of smartphone owners, including those without banking access, to transacting in cryptocurrency. network also allows for the creation of smart contracts and decentralized applications (DApps) as part of decentralized finance (DeFi).
Arweave (AR):
Decentralized storage network seeking to offer a platform for the indefinite storage of data. Describes itself as "a collectively owned hard drive that never forgets," the network primarily hosts "the permaweb" (a permanent, decentralized web with a number of community-driven applications and platforms).
Gala (GALA):
Aims to take gaming industry in different direction by giving players back control over their games. Project wants to change fact that players can spend hundreds of dollars on in-game assets, & countless hours spent playing the game, which could be taken away from them with the click of a button. It plans to reintroduce creative thinking into games by giving players control of the games & in-game assets with the help of blockchain technology. Players can influence the governance of games within the Gala Games ecosystem. The Founder’s Nodes voting mechanism allows players to influence what games Gala should develop & what games should get funding.
Golem (GLM):
Decentralized computation network, a new way of distributing redundant computing power to those who are in need of it, on-demand. It creates a peer-to-peer network where users join on an equal basis to buy and sell computation, splitting up complicated tasks into smaller subtasks in the network.
