I Tried to Pay For an Oil Change with Bitcoin

As my experience with Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies continues, I like to test the waters sometimes. When someone asks me "what is Bitcoin," my response always simple. Money. Despite what many may say, that's what it is. In my time, I've only actually used it as such a couple of times. When I bring up these transactions, most people will say "you're better off hodling" or something to that affect. I have been told "Bitcoin is not meant to be spent." I completely disagree with that notion that some have told me.

I've found a way that you can buy a sandwich with crypto. I still need to actually test that one out: follow-up post incoming on that front. I've bought stickers from an artist in Europe using Bitcoin. I've given tips in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash, both in-person for services and online for well-written articles.  So, naturally, the next step is to just start asking if I can use BTC as remittance for goods and services.

Now, obviously this venture won't work in large corporate-owned business like an Apple Store or a Wal-Mart. I figured I'd have my best luck at local businesses, where the owners are in the house. My car needed an oil change recently, and I knew the mechanic from previous automobile services. It was without hesitation that when I went to pick up my vehicle, I asked if he would accept Bitcoin as payment. "Cash or card only" was the reply. I wasn't actually expecting to be spending satoshis at the garage, but it was worth a shot.

For the record, I don't own a lambo. Also, for what it's worth, Tesla has not resumed BTC payments for their vehicles which could briefly be paid for with satoshis in the United States in 2021.
