How to Whale Watch in DeFi

Bienvenidos mis ositos, tu siempre eres mis queridos! (Welcome back little bears you are always my dears!)

One of my bucket list items is to do some whale watching off the coast of the Galapagos Islands. Of course this will take a bit of money but I hope my DeFi investments will get me there some day. While I wait, let me show you a different type of whale watching.

It’s fascinating to see how successful people manage their money. Imagine if you could get free advice from some millionaire buddys? I don’t know about you but I don’t have any jet set frens (at least not yet). Let me show you the next best thing in the DeFi space.

There are quite a few useful DeFi wallet aggregators out there but my favorite at the moment is Debank.

It’s pretty useful as it puts all the projects (that are supported) you’ve invested in together so you can see your total balance. You can also swap tokens, see how the DeFi marketplace is doing and vote on inclusion of newer projects.

All that is fine and dandy but I like the section where I can peek at 7 figure and up account balances.

If you go to the DeFi list section you can see all the big Defi projects. If you poke around enough this section allows you to see how the other half lives.

But ser I don’t want to feel like a creepy weirdo!

Oh stop it! The point is not to feel like a jealous voyeur but to see what YOUR future could look like and get inspired.

This not a guarantee of course, even rich investors can get tripped up. Search for Cuban & Iron Finance *cough*  *cough*.

Now what you want to do is click on a project you like. Let’s take Curve as an example. Once you click on a project you’ll see a big list of addresses.

Look for addresses that are NOT color coded “Contract”. These are protocol or project addresses. I haven’t figured out a way to see if those will be interesting or useful yet.

Also look out for addresses that are TOO concentrated in one or two projects. Most likely this won’t belong to any one individual (but I could be wrong. If you own this address, I want to be your friend.

Now the address in the next picture is most likely a whale as money is spread out across different projects. To me, this account is impressive not just in size but scope.

Now I guess this account holder is a classy degen. Not a single “copy pasta farm swap” in sight. What’s interesting is that there are two projects like LDO and STAKE that I’m not familiar with.

This is a starting point for me to do research on potentially interesting (and maybe lucrative) projects. Now this type of research might be a little weird or take some time. However this is one of those features that makes DeFi great.

The person can stay anonymous but still let others learn about how they allocate investments. Hope you found this interesting!

Be sharp, stay hungry let’s get that money!
