What is Wolf Game?

Wolf Game is a play-to-earn game combining NFTs and DeFi mechanics to bring passive income to players. One of the critical characteristics of the game is that it places a significant focus on risk in decision-making.

This is where Wolf Game stands out from what we’ve seen in the play-to-earn space so far. Players have to carefully calculate the percentage of risk involved. Of course, the higher the risk, the higher the reward.

While it is still in development, the game went through several phases open to the public, where it presented innovative game mechanics linked to decentralized finance (DeFi).

While the full game is not yet available, you can have fun with alpha version of the game. In this version you need to use Ethereum-based NFTs to upgrade your farm and get more in-game WOOL tokens – all while trying to keep your game assets safe.

What makes Wolf Game innovative?

Wolf Game took gamified finance, often abbreviated as GameFi, to your Barn in the metaverse. There, you own the Land you play on, while Sheep produce WOOL tokens, Farmers work on the land, and the Wolves surround your farm.

Your Sheep can be bred and staked, but they are never completely safe from the Wolves. But the dynamic of the game is that your NFTs can interact with the game on their own.

• Wolves can kidnap Sheep from your farm if they aren’t staked;
• You need to pay taxes on the production of WOOL to the Wolves;
• WOOL Pouches exist in the form of ERC-20 tokens that release NFTs over time.

While the minting process for the in-game NFTs is over, you can buy them on secondary markets like OpenSea. Find out more about each of the game characters:

Wolves and Sheep

Wolves and Sheep are the two main characters in the game. Both Sheep and Wolves are mintable ERC-721 NFTs living on the Ethereum blockchain. The minting process for these NFTs is over, and also introduced the concept of risk. To mint, players needed WOOL tokens.

In essence, Sheep live blissfully in the Barn, and owners collect WOOL tokens for staking their Sheep NFTs.

However, just outside the Barn, a pack of Wolves is anxiously looking for a way to get to the Sheep. To protect their Sheep, owners pay WOOL tax to the Wolves. Wolves receive 30% of all WOOL proceeds coming into the Barn.

But there’s a catch. Wolves like to steal things. If you own a Wolf NFT, you also benefit from the possibility that your wolf steals a sheep NFT for you. 

At the time of writing, the cheapest Sheep on the secondary market is 1.05 ETH, or about $1,363. Wolves are soaring even higher, with the cheapest currently on sale for 8 ETH, or $10,390.

Land and Farmers

To keep up with the latest trends in the virtual world, Wolf Game has also introduced land deed NFTs. These deeds serve as boosters for sheep owners.

Each of the 20,000 land NFTs is unique, with varying acreage and capabilities that can be multiplied by Farmers – also a collection of NFTs with a floor price of 0.55 ETH, or $714 at the time of writing.

Land NFTs allow players to cultivate assets and boost their performance. The way land was distributed in-game is an important part of the success of the project so far. Additionally, half of this supply was reserved for Genesis NFT holders. The floor price for one of these and deeds is currently 0.41 ETH, around $532.

Packs: Attack and Fortify

Wolf Game’s latest stage, the Alpha Game, introduced new gameplay where players create Packs using their Wolves and Sheep. You can see a Pack as a clan or guild. The goal is to help your Pack accumulate as many points as possible by attacking other Packs or defending your fortification and staking your NFTs.

Depending on the type of your NFT, if it is a Sheep or a Wolf in a specific level (Omega, Delta, Beta, and Alpha,) staking earns your Pack more points. You can choose to leave your Pack if you want to, as long as you’re not its Alpha.

According to the game’s Whitepaper, “The game will be played through the duration of the full Wolf Game development period and end when The Shepherd decides.”

What is WOOL?

WOOL is the native ERC-20 token for Wolf Game. Staking sheep NFTs earns holders a passive income in WOOL.

Holding a Wolf NFT also earns a passive income in WOOL. At the time of writing, one WOOL token is worth about $0.07.

WOOL price increased 110% over the past 30 days.

You can earn WOOL from playing Wolf Game and increase your earnings by owning and staking your NFTs and WOOL. If you want to buy WOOL, you can do it on exchanges like Uniswap or through DappRadar’s own integrated Token Swap, which comes without additional fees.

How to play and win Wolf Game

Right now, you can join the Wolves in the Alpha Game and be a part of the development of Wolf Game V2 , which will fully launch before the end of 2022.

This week, WOOL Event #4 started, and according to the official website, you have until October 24 at 11:59 PM EST to participate.

Here’s what you need to do to get started playing Wolf Game:

1. Learn the game’s history and mechanics. Join their community to learn more;
2. Visit the game’s official website and connect your MetaMask;
3. Get yourself ready for battle: research and buy Sheep and Wolves on OpenSea according to your strategy;
4. Add WOOL tokens to your wallet – you can trade them on Uniswap;
5. Choose and join one of the 14 Packs to start playing;
6. Stake your NFTs.

Make sure to choose your NFTs well, as well as your Pack. As you know, different NFTs have different characteristics and can grant you higher points when attacking and defending your Fortification.

During this event, you have the chance to win Pouched WOOL with your Pack and raw WOOL with your own performance.

Wolf Game trajectory to date

Since the release of the first version in November 2021, Wolf Game has brought several innovative elements to the GameFi landscape in different stages.

You now know how to get started playing Wolf Game’s latest version, but the game went through a long way to get there. Take a look at how it evolved throughout the months.

Wolf Game V1: From November 18 to 21, 2021

The game’s original version took 10,000 generation-0 Wolves and Sheep NFTs minted with ETH to players for the first time. Then, you were able to stake Wolves and Sheep in the Barn to accumulate WOOL – the game’s token – by shearing your Sheep and had to pay a WOOL tax to the Wolves.

It was during this version that the game became a hit, attracting upwards of $10 million in combined trading volume.

Then, a new generation of Wolves and Sheep NFTs were minted with WOOL. And to add a bit of fun, the game put each of these animals under a 10% risk of being stolen by one of the Wolves.

Risky Game: December 6, 2021

Later on, after the initial fuss, Wolf Game invited players to Risky Game, a new and simple stage that kept the community engaged.

The Wolves approached Sheep with an offer to play a game for WOOL. If they chose the Yes Risk option, they had a 50% chance of winning a large WOOL Pouch. But if your choice were No Risk, then you simply received a small WOOL Pouch.

Cave Game: From April 11 to June 4, 2022

In 2022, a different stage brought new resources to Wolf Game. On Cave Game, 14 Packs explored 14 distinct Caves in an interactive real-time minigame.

You could strategize and make your Sheep and Wolves navigate and hunt for supplies like WOOL, but also Gems and even Wolf Game Merch.

Cave Game saw over 30 million WOOL and over 1,000 Gems burnt, or “lost to the Caves forever, never to be uncovered.”

Alpha Game: From January 18 and currently live

During Wolf Game’s most recent stage, players could explore high stakes and rewards taking their 14 Alpha Wolf leaders to guide Wolves and Sheep flock in the quest for WOOL. Packs also could then attack opposing Packs and fortify their own.

The better the player, the more WOOL they get, and the further their Pack goes. Alpha Game is the last stage before Wolf Game’s full launch.

When is the full game launching?

The complete Wolf Game experience is expected to launch in Q4 2022. The announcement was made in September, but further details are still missing.

Who is the Wolf Game Shepherd?

The novelty factor is strong with Wolf Game. However, the platform is further shrouded in mystery because the creator has not announced their identity publicly.

Since the beginning, all official communication regarding Wolf Game comes from an individual called ‘the Shepherd’. Speculation about the real identity of the Shepherd has been occupying Twitter threads since the launch of the game.
