What is Horizen?
Horizen ($ZEN) - formerly Zencash - is a pioneering platform that enables real-life uses outside of the cryptocurrency ZEN. Horizen is a massively scalable general purpose blockchain system that allows for an unlimited and completely decentralized side chain ecosystem. Horizen creates an ecosystem with a censorship-resistant peer-to-peer network that its users own, are not allowed to participate and is built with incentives for endogenous growth. Horizen's goal is to create a side chain system that allows real-world applications to be mapped to a fully distributed, secure, privacy-protecting blockchain architecture, and the use of ZEN at real value as a well-established and tradable token. Such a system would allow developers to create decentralized applications implemented as side chains to the Horizen main blockchain with their own logic and data. Horizen project by Rob Viglione and Rolf Versluis in May 2017 was launched as "ZenCash". Originally created to provide a peer-to-peer economic system for money, media and messaging, this product was renamed "Horizen" in July 2018.
