Merging NFTs with a Card Trading Game: Introducing Goons of Balatroon
The Goons of Balatroon (GOB) aims to tap on this growing global interest. In a recent press release, the developers of GOB said their project is the "wackiest and hottest" trading card universe integrating NFTs. They have since released their Genesis Goon Card Packs. Each pack has five random cards with varying rarity, either in Shiny or Regular editions. The most common is the Common card, while the rarest—and thus, the most valuable - is Legendary.
The Goons of Balatroon debuted in August 2021 with 9,696 Goon avatar characters as NFTs. These characters appear on the platform's play-to-earn card trading game set to launch in Q1 2022. Each Goon character will be central in the game, which revolves around controlling the mythical land of Balatroon using Goon cards. Like in any other battle game, winners receive a reward. In the play-to-earn card game, winners will be rewarded with GOB—a native token of the Goons of Balatroon game.
According to the project, holders of any of the 9,696 Goon avatar NFTs can earn and accumulate GOB provided by delisting their assets in the marketplace. Moreover, players can participate in the GOB economy where they can develop skills that give them an edge over competitors.
Genesis Goon Card Packs Details: Public Sale Ongoing
The Genesis Goon Card Packs comprise five Genesis Goon Card NFTs, which can be claimed in several ways. For instance, holders of Goon Avatar NFTs can claim a single free pack per Goon Avatar NFT. They can further add to their stack by using their accumulated GOB rewards to purchase additional packs. However, those who don't hold any Goon Avatar NFTs can buy these packs using GOB or ETH.
The public sale of the Genesis Goon Card NFTs began on December 22 until all packs are sold out. All that's needed for a user is the METAMASK web browser wallet. Goons of Balatroon developers have also indicated that all packs will be traded immediately on the Immutable X marketplace. The NFT-focused layer-2 marketplace drastically dumps the cost of minting and transferring NFTs.
Genesis Packs NFTs are available for 0.0069 ETH or 1k GOB. However, there are discounts for users who purchase multiple packs. All purchases in ETH would require the user to send funds first before proceeding to the acquisition stage, where acquired assets will be minted on the Immutable X inventory. Still, users won't know the content of their packs until when the unpacking functionality is activated in January 2022, a few weeks before the Goons of Balatroon play-to-earn game launches. The game's launch will be the platform's main milestone in 2022, a year in which they also plan to release the GOB token, Crafting Stations, and activate NFT Leasing.

Overall, the integration of NFTs in Goons of Balatroon only serves their needs, giving them even more flexibility. NFTs enable the minting of each Goon character, distinct from the rest, therefore allowing for the assignment of a value in the secondary marketplace. Additionally, because NFTs deploy on the transparent blockchain, the end-user has added benefits. All GOB activities will be easily tracked on the blockchain, a level of transparency different from traditional card trading games rife with claims of opaqueness which affects player confidence.
