Monty Munford, the popular British Journalist known for his weekly column on The Telegraph and regular appearances on BBC World Service, brought to the world Gamepay’s exciting new venture by publishing an exclusive interview with Gamepay’s CEO Daniel Santos on his influential blog Mob76.
Raised in Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Santos grew up to become an Investor banker, who worked at big banking firms in London, Moscow, and Asia. His interest in crypto saw him become an adopter of Bitcoins and by 2016 he had created ‘Blockchain labs’ in Singapore and the rest is history. He has now ventured into creating Chickey Chik, powered by Gamepay which is partially owned by Blockchain Labs.
Gamepay is a platform that provides the infrastructure, tools, and community for gamers to launch. This platform also enables access to the unbanked, the low-income demographic as well as gamers. Gamepay’s tools and infrastructure is designed to build multiverses.
Santos shared how Gamepay is building a new economic model that will allow self-sustaining and evolving fluid ‘digital societies’ to create value via minting, trading, and exchanging digital assets in the digital world and in the new metaverse. As part of their new economic model, the tokenized gig economy provides an opportunity for low-income and low-middle income demographics to carry out tasks and activities, including games, and earn in-game tokens. He explained that these tokens can then ultimately be converted into fiat or be used (in crypto assets) to pay for goods and services as crypto market adoption takes place and cryptocurrencies are then more widely used in the real (offline) economy.
When probed on Gamepay’s maiden game ‘Chickey Chik’ on the platform, Daniel Santos shared how Chickey Chik shall play a critical role in onboarding the next generation of gamers and game developers. He was excited to inform that the Chickey Chik platform shall be available online on the web and as a mobile application (iOS and Android) in seven languages (in addition to English) by the second half of 2022, covering the largest global population of low-income demographics.
In the Q and A session, Santos elucidated how the Chickey Chik game was inspired by one of the co-founder’s 9-year old child’s obsession with the “Chick ‘’ cartoon & the Pokemon-inspired universe. He described how Chickey Chik would adopt the Play-to-Earn (P2E) model where players can earn money by playing, and that anyone of any age can play Chickey Chik and earn money.
When Monford questioned the reason behind such a project, Daniel was quick at answering how the goal of Chickey Chik was to give players the opportunity to earn double the local minimum wage (e.g. in the Philippines ) by playing the game. According to Daniel, Chickey Chik’s gameplay involved players playing with their Chickey Chiks to challenge other players in competitions, breed better and more rare Chickey Chiks, acquire flocks of Chickey Chiks, develop and nurture young Chickey Chiks, and build an Empire. He also expounded how players can digitize and sell their Chickey Chiks and many other in-game assets in form of NFTs
The visionary shared how he saw a future where work and play become one. Daniel Santos believes that his team’s dream of battling and collecting cute Chickeys could change the world. His team believes in empowering players and helping them make money, especially those who would like to earn and play as a profession.
So when is Chickey Chik hitting the market?
Daniel Santos announced that Chickey Chik will start NFT sales in February and that the game’s launch is scheduled by the mid of 2022.
