Steem is the pioneer of social media publication based on blockchain. In the early development, steem price reached 5 USD but now it is only about 0.20 USD. Steem culture is different from general social media like facebook, instagram, and twitter. Influencers on steem are not only from followers but also from steem power. Ones with high steem powers called whales. A whale is usually has more than 500.000 steem power. It is about 100.000 USD. That is a big money for new members or minnows. Curation sharing recently is about 50 % curators and 50 % authors.
In the past, culture of steem were not nice among users. There were downvotes hostility. A whale or a group of whales hostile one or a group of accounts to downvote. That was very bad. There are some users are not satisfied with steem so they create their own portal or clone like steemit. Whaleshares is one of example of a group of steemit users that create independent platform. However, whaleshares users brought steemit culture to the new platform so that whaleshares now is left by most users.
Steemit after hardfork
On March 20, Hive hard forked the Steem network, airdropping HIVE tokens to STEEM holders 1:1, excluding the founder’s reward.

Steem split into two communities hive and steem. Some developers and whales moved to hive but some others stayed in steem. Leofinance , foodiesunite prefered to move to hive chain. Steem zzang based in South Korea chose steem. Those are big communities in steem and hive.
Justin Sun now controls steem fully. He uses his power to censor accounts that attack him. Steem promises there will be downvote again to steemit users.
Steemit now
I am a steemit user. Now, I feel the different culture in steem. The steemit.inc under Justin Sun share power to steemcurators. The steemcurators are welcome to newbies or minnows. They are doing some contests that give wonderful votes and rewards to steemit users. Newbies and minnows in steem react to the different cultures from old steem where whales are poor supporters to newbies. Steemitcurators have increase motivation of minnows to be active in steem. Though, steem is centralized and controlled by Justin Sun, a lot of new users satisfied with the earning and activities. Minnows have new hope rather than old steem. My earning is steem is higher than hive earning. No worry about downvote in steem. In the future, when there are new thoushands users join steem, the price will increase too. Let's wait and see!
