Exploring the NEAR Protocol: Project Landscape, Transaction Patterns, and User Engagement

Do repost and rate:

NEAR is an L1 blockchain that strives to create an optimal environment for decentralized applications (dApps) by addressing common limitations found in other systems, such as slow speeds, low throughput, and poor cross-compatibility. With a focus on fast dApp development, NEAR aims to provide the best infrastructure for developers. One of the tools available for monitoring the NEAR ecosystem is a comprehensive dashboard that offers an overview of active projects built on the NEAR blockchain. This blogpost serves as a valuable resource for the NEAR enthusiast, allowing them to track the number and nature of active projects at any given time.

Active Projects

To date, over 1000 projects have been built on the NEAR protocol. The data shows a peak in active projects in December 2021, followed by a decline in the activity of new projects since March 2022. However, approximately 450 projects have remained active over the past six months, indicating a sustained level of engagement within the NEAR ecosystem.

Transaction Analysis

By examining the number of transactions and transaction fees generated by each project, we can identify prominent players within the NEAR ecosystem. In the past six months, the Sweat project, a move-to-earn initiative, has emerged as the dominant project in terms of transaction volume. NEAR Crowd, a social project, follows closely behind.

User Engagement

When considering active and new users, Sweat stands out with the highest number of active users and consistent growth in weekly new user adoption. Recently, the learning project Play Ember has gained traction with a growing number of onboarded users. Additionally, Tether experienced significant adoption in the previous month.

Top Sticky Protocols

Sticky protocols reflect user retention and perceived value. Land of Empire, a gaming project, consistently ranked within the top 20 most sticky protocols for 325 out of 365 days, suggesting strong stickiness. However, further analysis reveals that these activities may not be organic. Excluding Land of Empire, NEAR CROWD (education) and Flux Protocol (dApp) emerge as the most prominent protocols among the top 20 most sticky.

The analysis of the NEAR protocol provides valuable insights into project activity, transaction types, user engagement, and stickiness within the ecosystem. Despite a decline in new project activity, over 1000 projects have been built on NEAR, with approximately 450 remaining active over the past six months. Sweat has emerged as the dominant project in terms of transaction volume, while transfer transactions constitute the majority on the NEAR blockchain. User engagement highlights the popularity of Sweat and the recent growth of Play Ember and Tether adoption. Stickiness analysis reveals NEAR CROWD and Flux Protocol as prominent protocols, excluding Land of Empire. These insights empower stakeholders to make informed decisions and identify areas for growth and development within the NEAR protocol ecosystem.
