Serenity is the long awaited update to the Ethereum network. The crypto community is also getting impatient day by day since the launch does not seem expected until early 2021. The final testnet should, for its part, be deployed on August 4.
A last testnet for Ethereum 2.0?
It looks like we are now in the home stretch before Ethereum 2.0 launches. Indeed, the final testnet should be deployed on August 4 . The latter will test, at real size, phase 0 of Ethereum 2.0.
At least that's what launch coordinator Danny Ryan announced on Discord :
As a reminder, this phase 0, premise of Ethereum 2.0, will be useful for the transition from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake . As a result, the network will be able to process more transactions per second.
So, the earliest Ethereum 2.0 release date would be around November 4, 2020 , provided the testnet runs smoothly for three months.
A priori tests without obstacles
In April, the Sapphire testnet saw the light of day, allowing the validator system to be tested with a reduced deposit of 3.2 ETH . It was followed by Topaz in May, with an increase in the deposit to 32 ETH (the final value for Eth2), which gathered more than 23,000 validators .
Following its success, the Schlesi and Onyx testnets were launched to test a configuration close to that of Ethereum 2.0, in particular the multi-client.
Finally, we learned earlier this week of the launch of two attacknets . $ 5,000 will be offered as a reward to hackers who successfully complete the challenge.
An expected and necessary update
With the rise of DeFi, the Ethereum network is under pressure . Indeed, it begins to reach its technical limits , causing an increase in transaction costs . For their part, second-layer solutions, although highly advanced, still do not significantly reduce network congestion.
While the earliest launch date is set for November 4, developer Justin Drake is planning a launch date for early 2021 . An announcement that did not please Vitalik Butterin, for whom 2021 remains a more than attainable goal.
