Ethereum 2.0 launch in 2020 after all? Buterin Speaks

Do repost and rate:

The launch of Ethereum 2.0, phase 0 is undoubtedly one of the most awaited events in crypto-space in 2020, but expectations were suspended last Friday when Justin Drake, researcher at the Ethereum Foundation , said in a Reddit Ask-Me-Anything session that it expects Ethereum 2.0 to be further delayed. According to Drake, Thanksgiving on November 26 and the December holidays make the launch of Ethereum 2.0 unlikely before 2020.

As such, I am now inclined to say that the first practical date for genesis is something like January 3, 2021 ( Bitcoin's 12th anniversary ).

Drake justified his statement by the fact that before the leek, there must be at least a public testnet with more than 3 clients, an "attack network" with incentives, a bug bounty program as well as a public testnet with more than 3 clients each, which works well for at least 2 to 3 months. Although Ethereum inventor Vitalik Buterin has also expressed similar requirements for launch in the past, he contradicted Drake:

Personally, I totally disagree with this and I would be in favor of launching phase 0 well before this date. Eth1 took four months from the launch of the first multi-client testnet (~ end of March 2015 Olympic to the end of May 2015 for the launch of eth1), and I would say that the period of four months started to turn for us at the beginning of July when Launch of  Altona  .

In the ranks of the developers of Ethereum Core, other voices supporting Buterin have also been expressed. Danny Ryan of the Ethereum Foundation , for example, explained that he still expects a launch in 2020.

Me and others are still betting on 2020.

Another influential voice from Ethereum's main developers , Hudson Jameson, also expressed support for Buterin's statement. Preston Valoon of Prysmatic Labs, a development company working on Ethereum 2.0, bought 32 “Yes- ETH shares ” on the Omen forecast market, betting that ETH 2.0, Phase 0 will be launched before 2021.

Due to the many contradictions, Drake finally gave in and said he heard the critics and wrote that he wanted to deliver ETH 2 in 2020.

Strong and clear! ??

The community wants the genesis of phase 0 in 2020 - not a day late. The objective is set; ship.

Finally, he also pointed out that the development of Ethereum 2.0 has been made unnecessarily difficult by numerous design iterations, many community clients compared to the client led by Ethereum Foundation and "libp2p vs devp2p; BLS12-381 vs. BN254 ”. According to Drake, a launch a year or two ago would have been possible had these decisions not been made. However, it "will pay off for decades," says Drake.

Despite the "agreement" which now seems to have been reached, the launch date of Ethereum 2.0 remains more than ever questionable. In order to really launch ETH 2.0, all stakeholders, namely miners, client developers, main developers and the companies involved in Ethereum must give their "Go". Therefore, it remains to be seen whether this can really be achieved by the end of the year.
