The Elon Musk flamethrower saga officially has a new chapter.
To recap, last January, Musk introduced The Boring Company flamethrower, joking that the weapon has a safe word, “cryptocurrency,” and comes with a free blockchain.
In response to the tweet, Randy Pitchford, co-founder and CEO of Gearbox Software, the development team behind Borderlands 3, let Musk know that he was going to add the flamethrower to the upcoming game.
Elon – I’m going to add this to our next Borderlands game. Super serious. Let me know if you want to write the flavor text. You may have already done so – we’ll just lift it from one of your tweets.

Over a year later and Pitchford has apparently made good on his promise.
Recently brought to our attention by Twitter user Josh McGruff, there is a legendary weapon that looks like The Boring Company flamethrower available in the game that features two references to Musk’s tweet.
The gun, which is called the “Firesale Long Muskett,” was originally found and tested by Bonjwa in a live stream at Gamescom 2019. Notably, the gun is manufactured by Tediore, which means it can be thrown at the enemy to reload and a new fully-loaded gun materializes in the player’s hands. While it has little to do with cryptocurrency apart from the two text references, it does appear to be highly effective vs. flesh.
Borderlands 3 isn’t the first mainstream game to feature crypto references. As we reported last month, Apex Legends’ latest character is named Crypto and one of the character skins makes reference to blockchain technology.
