1. Introduction

Blockchain technologies provide us with tools to overhaul any field of life marred by inefficiencies and revitilize outdated systems and industries. The metaverses we experience today offer opportunities for leisure as well as culture and work and it’s not too far-fetched to imagine the lines in-between to get further blurred, to the extent that we might one day decide to acquire part, if not all of our education in a metaverse-like space.

Education is indeed one area that would massively benefit from the removal of unnecessary middle-men and inefficiencies stemming from systems developed when the Internet was not available, let alone blockchain tech. Undoubtedly a very broad topic to tackle when it comes to Web3, the untapped potential of new technologies to overhaul our current educational system is dizzyingly exciting. As efforts in that direction are yet to surface or at least come out of an embryonic stage, the creation of a veritable Eduverse where educators and learners rather than gamers, cryptoartists and degens hang out is rather far in the future and very few of the first Eduverse building blocks are already available to us. We can for example imagine NFT certificates to build a decentralized, on-chain curriculum, but we lack even the notion of what a provider of such certificates might look like in the future.

to speak of education at present in the crypto industry is basically to refer to the introduction of concepts and tools that would help newcomers to this industry reach more solid grounds in terms of what they understand and can do with cryptocurrencies. This will be the focus of this analysis but I hope that some of these newcomers will help leverage the power of Web3 to improve our educational systems all over the world and shift the educational discourse in directions we can’t even fathom at present.
