The Coca-Cola company has launched a special edition of collectible non-fungible tokens (NFTs) inspired by shared moments of friendship. The company has collaborated with Tafi, a content creator for custom 3D avatars and emojis, and the Virtue agency that created the initial concept. The collection is a nod to Special Olympics International, a Coca-Cola partner for over 50 years.

Speaking on the development, Global Coca-Cola Category president, Selman Careaga, touted Coca-Cola as one of the world’s most collectible brands, sharing moments of joy with customers for decades. Noreaga said:

“We are excited to share our first NFTs with the metaverse, where new friendships are being forged in new ways in new worlds, and to support our longstanding friend and partner, Special Olympics International.”

The Coca-Cola token is a four-piece that will be auctioned as one. The collection includes a custom Coca-Cola Bubble Jacket Wearable, modeled after the company’s retro delivery uniforms, and an NFT Friendship Box inspired by Coca-Cola’s 1956 collectible vending machines. Others include a loot box and Friendship Card.

Careaga explained that each NFT celebrates elements core to the Coca-Cola brand, but created in a way that is exciting for the virtual world. The NFTs in the collection will be compatible with the Decentraland metaverse. For instance, avatars in the metaverse will be able to put on the Wearable Jacket.
