Chapter 3: The Wild Wild West of NFTs (Art Edition)

Disclaimer: These are my thoughts on NFTs when it comes to art itself, the next chapter will cover NFTs as financial investments. Look forward to it! :3

Well, Google says it's a non-fungible token, a unit of data stored on a digital ledger, called a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable. Honestly, most people don't care about the meaning or the technology behind it, rather the apple in their eye would be within the dollar signs and I don't blame them. When I was younger, I use to ask for Pokemon cards every so often when I went to Target. I thought they were neat and enjoyed owning a card with my favorite Pokemon on it. Nowadays however, those same cards are coveted by collectors and are no longer as easily assessable for children. This is due to the hype that currently surrounds them and the scarcity that comes with the concept. Such a phenomena happens with any popular collectible. The problem now becomes what happens when everyone starts selling their own Pokemon cards? Prices are all determined through speculation and popularity. There will only ever be 10,000 of---100 unique---bounding curve starts at---I'll be honest here, most NFT's are scams or at least a work of art should just be left as a work of art, not something that you should try to invest in to flip. The ones that succeed today must stand out someway with their sheer audacity, a popular celebrity, profound beauty, or just dumb luck (or good marketing).                                 ( ?° ?? ?°)?\_(?)_/?

Be Wary where you put your Money!

A collection could become a hit over night or much more likely, will fade away into obscurity. You could even make money off of a scam NFT such as the popular ChubbiesNFT out there. Stolen creativity managed to make it's way to one of the top NFT collectibles on OpenSea. At least now they're trying to work a deal with the original creator behind their concept. Sadly, it's only after public backlash do companies obtain a sense of morality. ?(?Д?)?

NFTs are Here to Stay <3

My favorite part about NFTs are that they allow you to support emerging artists all around the world! I think we should expand our view to see the story behind the work, focusing our appreciation on the art itself first and foremost before thinking about possible profitability. Let me share with you all two up-and-coming artists.

Here's "paint potion" an "Occupational therapist by day, artist by night" right over here: https://opensea.io/collection/paint-potion. Her art is both magical and weird in the best of ways. It's unique and you can tell that she's making art out of the love of creation and not the love of money. Everything is currently priced at .01eth or lower as she wants to build up an audience. Here's a few of my favorites of her work! (o?o?)

#1: "Swimming With Tha Glitches"

#2: "Spirit Cleanse"

#3: "Bottled Birth"

The second artist is "nftwaifus" and she has big plans for the future beyond the scope of her artwork. She wants to possibly create a game down the road, incorporating her NFTs into something bigger later on when she has both the time and the money. I think she can do it! She even made a website and already sold one of her NFTs for a whole Ethereum! Here's her website: http://www.nftwaifusproject.com/ & OPENSEA Account: https://opensea.io/accounts/nftwaifus ( ?? ???)

P.S. her art is also animated, which you can see on her OpenSea!

Thanks for reading! If you would like to support my work or simply check out my current expenditures (that I will eventually get around to writing about), here's my main wallet: 0x38835098A8AcCD046Efa8123f9fCd5AAA2CB3a7E Take Care! :3
