Canada Utilizes The Ethereum Blockchain For The Public Good

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), through the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), is launching an Ethereum blockchain explorer on a Bitaccess product, the Catena Blockchain Suite. This news comes after a successful January 2018 public trial for the transparent administration of government contracts.

The application allows users to search the Ethereum blockchain for proactively published grants and contribution data. Blockchain technology is great for storing public information that needs to be permanent and immutable.

A major benefit of hosting their application on InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is that it can be accessed at any point in the future, even if the original web-host is offline. Even with the successful implementation of a public blockchain, the NRC is still trying to find more ways to experiment with this new, dependable, public technology.

“Our goal is to enable institutions to become fully transparent, and enable constituents to participate in the verification and validation of public information. We built the Catena Blockchain Suite as a simple, low risk, application for institutions to get introduced to blockchain technology. So far the reception has been terrific.” -Moe Adham, co-founder of Bitaccess
