Bugatti and Adidas launched an expensive football cleat - except it was not *THAT* expensive

Bugatti and Adidas teamed up for a cool project, if you're into shoes, especially football (or soccer) cleats (or boots).

It kinda counts as Web 3.0 project but that's just because you could only bid online, only with ETH, only after linking your wallet.

In return, you get a pair of Adidas football cleats, co-branded by Bugatti.

Sizes available range from 7-12 (40 - 46 in EU shoe size), and the shoes is limited to 99 units.

Now, all of that is brilliant, and the shoes look cool. And I was expecting them to cost a trillion billion, but they didn't.

The minimum bid was , so that's around $500 at today's price.

That's not cheap, at all. But in the crazy world we live in, you can very easily spend $200 or $300 or even $400 on a pair of customised cleats or shoes co-signed by a celebrity.

I was expecting a bidding war but all I got was a bar fight. And I bet Bugatti and Adidas are feeling the same way.

When the gavel dropped, the average final price for the cheapest shoe, size 7, was 0.27 ETH. The most expensive one, size 11, was around 0.42 ETH.

All in all, they probably made anywhere between 30 ETH and 50 ETH from the sale, and that's a lot of cash in absolute terms. But probably not a lot of cash for this project.

In fact, I was minutes away from bidding on a size 44.

I'm glad I didn't and kept my ETH, but it goes to show the project probably underperformed.

How do I know this?

Because even I could afford it.

So let's be real, that ain't a good sign.
