Bored Apes Steal The Spotlight Once Again

Bored Apes are among the most hyped NFT collections, and it is no surprise that they are attracting top-grossing sales on a regular basis. However, the past seven days have been more than impressive, with 8 out of the 10 top NFT sales going to BAYC.

The most expensive Bored Ape to switch owners is #4580. It sold to this wallet for 666 WETH, or about $1.73 million. Interestingly, this is the single NFT in the new owner’s portfolio. The runner-up in this week’s ranking is BAYC #1873, which switched owners for 569 ETH, or about $1.49 million.

Impressively, despite the Bored Apes dominance we see this week, the top three are completed by the Golden Friend NFT, part of the Invisible Friends collection. Last week, the NFT sold during a charity auction, and the winning bid was for 496.69 WETH, or about $1.3 million.

The other outlier in this week’s top 10 is CryptoPunk #7501, which switched wallets for 218.69 ETH, or about $607,890. The new owner has a rather seizable collection featuring one BAYC and two MAYC NFTs alongside a CloneX and an Adidas Originals collectibles. The total value of this NFT portfolio is estimated at more than $817,000.

Bored Apes overthrow CryptoPunks, newcomers aim for the throne

In the past seven days, Bored Apes have generated $25.6 million in trading volume, an increase of more than 60% compared to the week before. This places the collection as the eighth most traded project according to DappRadar Top NFT Collections rankings. All-time nemesis CryptoPunks ranks ninth with $15.79 million.

However, newcomers to the NFT space like Tubby Cats and Invisible Friends are outperforming both of these blue-chip collections. Tubby Cats, which launched on February 21st, has generated $29.8 million in trading volume over the past seven days. Invisible Friends did even better, recording $55.87 million over the same period.

This is an interesting trend to monitor. While OG blue-chip collections are securing the top-grossing sales, projects that are just starting out often benefit from the novelty factor and generate more in trading volume. However, it’s important to look at floor prices, because those are a clear indication of when the hype dies down.
