Wow wow wow what a year can do to change a projects outlook. Last summer (summer of 2020) I began to have some doubts about the team behind the BRAVE Browser as it was no longer really meeting my expectations. That's not to say I hated it or whatever but I was becoming discouraged with how I was seeing things being handled both publicly and privately. Fast forward give or take 12-14 months and I am blown away by what the development team has managed to pull off.
In February of this year they released their "Brave 2.0 Roadmap" and listed different things they hopped to bring to the browser within the next 12-18 months and really the list was pretty ambitious in my opinion. They were going to create their own wallet, create and launch a DEX, and continue to work on their Themis Protocol which will help improve the distribution method of BAT. Lastly they wanted to continue to create more functionality of BAT a long known issue.
Well by the beginning of November they had launched the DEX, which allowed you to recoup 20% of your transaction fee if you used BAT, and most importantly had announced their partnership with Solana which was going to host the launch of the Themis Protocol when the integration occurs in the beginning of 2022. They also had vastly improved the functionality of BAT. Initially you could redeem gift cards for your BAT but by now there were other things you could do including purchasing some limited addition NFT's!
The one big thing that was not addressed by the 2.0 at this point was the wallet.... Well IT HAS ARRIVED AND IT IS AMAZING! The wallet is avaiable with todays update to the Browser and now for the first time you do not need a plugin for your crypto wallet! This wallet was very very well planned out and executed and this shows with how they also released a YouTube video for those wanting to set it up! You can chose to create a whole new wallet or import a METAMASK wallet, your legacy Brave wallet, or any other self custody wallet!
What other features does it offer? Well you can actually have your Brave Wallet passward be different then say your MetaMask and for the Brave Wallet you get a recovery seed phrase as well! This wallet has an amazing view I mean just look!
With this wallet as you can see you can purchase crypto straight to it with a credit card via Wyre a commonly used service! Again the DEX is also right there with your wallet allowing for you to easily make transactions! I am honestly blown away with how simplistic yet functional this wallet is! I have tested it out going to different dapps and to connect is extremely simple! So far I am a HUGE fan as it just further simplification of Web 3.0 technology that is rapidly becoming more and more mainstream! Ease of access is going to be key for this to happen and I love to see Brave playing its role!
