Article revenue updates and thoughts— Stuart

TLDR: I made $112.75 utilizing Medium, Publish0x, and read.cash

Here’s some backstory…

I’ve loved writing my whole life and I decided a month ago I wanted to become a content producer for the crypto realm but had no portfolio to show my work. So I started creating it… After about 15 publications I started sending out resumes like mad (maybe over 50 applications). Long story short I am now the Head of Marketing for this new Yield Amplifying DeFi service coming ~June and I have managed to gain a Technical Writing position for JigStack.org and my life is now full-time cryptocurrency content production and I couldn’t be happier ??! Ok that being said, I also have a Masters in Philosophy, a Minor in Psychology, and have published 2 books so my resume for a writing position was decently populated prior to blogging.

I started writing consistently at the beginning of March for Medium, Publish0x, and read.cash. I managed to write 30 posts in 30 days (I wasn’t necessarily aiming to do that!). Some days I wrote 2 articles, some days I didn’t write any.

I write about crypto/finance-related topics.

I really enjoy writing in this space as it allows me to take my ideas and translate them into something that can be used by others. And I have tons of ideas ?? I really like writing as it is a great form of learning for me. I benefit from having to study and read new material in the space, I find the act of writing helps to solidify the content in my brain, and the engagement from those who comment is very stimulating to me! My main motive is learning and portrayal of understandings. Profits and all the rest come second. This works the best for me to maintain a healthy outlook towards writing.

Suggestions for writers

  • Choose a single topic to write about
  • Use multiple platforms
  • Include eye-catching material and paragraph/word styling
  • Start a publication
  • Write for reasons that are sustainable

Choosing a single topic to write on will give you more of a chance to capture a specific type of audience. Using a variety of pictures, videos, links, anything that helps with SEO is usually a good addition to your post. Don’t forget to use bold, italics, titles, and other formatting techniques to keep the reader interested in looking at the page. I found starting a publication on medium boosted my views a little bit more than usual. I only started a publication a week ago, so I’ll have to provide further updates in the future. I personally find the reason behind the act of writing is very important for the longevity of a writer's career.

If your only motive is making money or trying to gain a remote type of job, you most likely won’t ever achieve it.

Try to make those as a side product of some other deeper goal!

Using multiple platforms seems like a no-brainer to me. You are allowed to. It’s your content. The only issue here is the workflow.

Learn efficient workflow!

You don’t want to take 45min to copy and paste some text from one blog to another. This can actually take a long time as there are specific post attributes that need to be populated. Such as tags, lead image, topics, submit to the community, etc. If you are not efficient at this process, this could also eat away at your time! Your time is valuable. And the longer a post takes to make, the less attractive the returns will be!

Ok, let’s look at the actual revenues…

Medium is a massive platform with so many writers. I wasn’t expecting any real revenues from posting to this platform due to the saturation of content. It was really cool to see this many people read my writings! I managed to earn:

One thing to note with this income is that almost ~70% of that is generated by just 2 posts:

The returns from Medium seem quite sporadic and they are very dependent on the types of users reading your content. Are they subscribed? If they are, is this the only post they have read this month? Medium’s revenue comes from users who are subscribed to the Medium platform. When they read your post, you get some of their monthly payment. If they read tons of blogs, you make a smaller % than if they only read your post. This is why I managed to make $0.40 from one reader…

Publish0x is a really cool platform. They give users a certain amount of tips per day (I think it’s around 10 free tips). Each tip is around $0.01 and is paid in cryptocurrency. The user can decide when % of the tip goes to the content creator and what % goes to the tipper. Both parties gain on this platform! Which makes me wary at the number of views I’ve gotten. Take a look at the last 5 posts I made for example:

I wonder what % of these views are legit views vs. crypto tip farmers. Either way, I benefit. But I still wonder…

One thing I noticed with this platform is the user engagement is VERY high! A lot of people seem to post very genuine comments that show they have actually read the post. I have even had some back and forths with a few readers. Here are my earnings:

This site is interesting. about 99% of the revenue earned from this platform was generated by one user… “TheRandomRewarder”

read.cash has a “stats” section that keeps track of top tippers. Here is where TheRandomRewarder is placed…

From my understanding, it is just a bot that rewards those who write engaging content. It’s founded in some AI infrastructure, and if you have videos, links, images, and all the tasty SEO stuff, the tips will be higher! Another thing I noticed is that if other users tip you, then TheRandomRewarder will tip you more. Take a look here:

$11.70 from TheRandomRewarder and $0.15 from 2 other users. Regardless, I don’t really understand 100% the functionality of this bot. Is it purely for the community? Regardless, here is my total earnings paid in BCH (Bitcoin Cash):

Total revenue: $112.75

Welp, this is my life now. Should be interesting to see what the future holds for a career in crypto/DeFi content production!

I plan on posting consistently over this next coming month too! I’ll be making another post like this one a month from now to see what the revenue change is like. Thanks for reading :)
