5 Play-to-Earn Games to Try This December

Converging the worlds of gaming and crypto, play-to-earn games are increasingly popular thanks to their concept that awards players with in-game tokens for their gaming activities. These tokens can then be used to purchase in-game assets, NFTs, or simply sold for other cryptocurrency or fiat on exchanges.

Without further ado, here are five play-to-earn games that are worth a go this December:

1. Crazy Defense Heroes

Crazy Defense Heroes is a strategy tower defense game in which the player develops defensive strategies for their hero and armies through the use of structures and spells. The game also includes collecting cards and combining them to win boss fights. Players can customize their hero avatar, as well as team up with other players and create clans.

As part of the play-to-earn movement, Crazy Defense Heroes also allows players to receive awards for their participation. Specifically, the game’s creators regularly organize play-to-earn events that give players a chance to earn the native TOWER token. TOWER allows players opportunities to earn money from large reward pools. You can learn more about these monthly events directly from the official website.

2. Gods Unchained

A free-to-play digital trading card game that provides players with true ownership of their assets, Gods Unchained offers an opportunity to earn rewards for playing.

The game supports both casual and competitive play as players try to outsmart their opponents by making strategic moves, earning cards, and assembling decks to combine versatile tactics. Gods Unchained gives players complete ownership over their digital assets, allowing them to sell, trade, or use their cards however they want.

Recently, the publisher has announced that it is re-opening its Forge, which had been closed due to rising gas prices. The Forge allows players to merge their duplicate Core cards into one and sell them on Immutable X marketplace or other external markets.

3. The Sandbox

A virtual world in which players can own and customize one of the 166,000 digital land parcels, The Sandbox has been in the limelight for a while now, thanks to its fun and captivating premise.

At the moment, the game is running its Alpha test version, allowing users to play, create, own, and govern a virtual metaverse in solo or multiplayer experiences. That said, there are some limitations.

Anyone can access the Alpha HUB, as well as receive three unique experiences to explore and interact with The Sandbox community. However, the play-to-earn functionality only works if you have the Alpha Pass NFT in your wallet. With it, players can get full access to the 18 exclusive experiences of the Alpha, as well as earn up to 1,000 SAND tokens and three NFTs.

4. Mirandus

A fantasy role-playing game taking place in a vast virtual world ruled by five monarchs (who are also players), Mirandus gives players the total freedom of choice. They can explore the wilderness alone and fight monsters they encounter, team up with a monarch as a knight, or open a shop in one of the five cities.

As with other play-to-earn games, the player owns their in-game assets in the form of NFTs. They can also hold land deeds that allow them to claim parts of the wilderness and establish holdfasts in various sizes.

In December, Mirandus is launching a playtest, during which players can earn the in-game token called Materium. In order to do this, they have to play as a legendary NFT game character called Exemplar. Exemplar NFTs can be purchased on the Gala Games website. Materium can be used to enforce weapons and armor, make elixirs and potions, as well as to magically teleport items.

It remains to be seen if there’s going to be an in-game currency. However, judging by other similar games, this is highly likely.

5. REVV Racing

REVV Racing is a blockchain-powered, browser-based racing game. It has recently introduced its new play-to-earn mechanics. Players can not only play and earn the native $REVV tokens but also upgrade their common racing cars NFTs (with which they start) using the new Fusion System. Players can upgrade different vehicle features with a so-called catalyst and REVV tokens.

The vehicles are NFTs, while the Catalyst is represented by the fungible CATA token. CATA can be created through Shards (SHRD). Players can also earn SHRD by playing REVV Racing, with the amount of rewards depending on track length and number of laps driven. REVV tokens, on the other hand, are earned based on player ranking.

Play-to-earn is the new hit in blockchain gaming

Blockchain gaming is at the center of attention with the rise of play-to-earn giants like Axie Infinity and Alien Worlds. The play-to-earn movement has become one of the largest sectors of the crypto world. According to recent DappRadar reports, in November, the play-to-earn sector surpassed $1 billion in NFT trading volume, growing 71% month-over-month.

The perspective of the gaming community continues shifting to this new passive income model. Consequently, more and more projects join the sector. This month’s top five play-to-earn suggestions are a great way to start exploring the up-and-coming gaming mechanics and make some money on the side.  We hope you have lots of fun trying out these games, and stay tuned for future play-to-earn suggestions.
