The number Pi has been a fascinating number for me since an early age. So when I came across MinePi, I guess rather foolishly, I jumped on the bandwagon without thinking much. Was I right? Only time will tell.
So what is Pi?
Pi Network aims to build a cryptocurrency and smart contracts platform secured and operated by everyday people. They imagine that one day Pi Network will be the world’s most inclusive peer-to-peer marketplace, fueled by Pi, the world’s most widely used cryptocurrency.
All very reasonable though there are several articles you can find on Google that claim it is all a scam. I assume it could be. But there is no evidence. Also, one’s contribution at the moment can be limited to one tap per day on your smartphone. There is the valid question of how will they generate value, eventually?
Well, the builders of Pi Network seem to think that they can tap into several possible areas to generate value.
1. The trust factor - how do you know who to trust on the internet. This is one of the ideas I had some years ago and could have actually built so it feels close to heart.
2. Attention marketplace - there’s already many vendors making money out of this, including this very website.
3. Marketplace -making it easy for everyone to have they personal store
4 Decentralised applications - making it easy for creators to build one without much technical knowledge.
Should you give Pi a chance?
I’d say yes but then I already am involved so of course I will say yes. But my main objection agains similar projects is the time they waste.
And in the grand scale of things one tap per day doesn’t seem to waste much time and if it was to generate value you will get something back.
