I wrote about this in August of 2023 but as of today -September 25, 2023 - it has become official. BINANCE has exited the Canadian market.
This is very frustrating for me because I have been using Binance for two ends.
1. I have some trust that they are good stewards of capital so I was staking my tokens on their exchange.
2. As one of the remaining large crypto exchanged left after the FTX disaster, I was of the opinion that Binance would flourish and eat up market share. This is why I was building up to a whole BNB token. Currently I hold 0.182 BNB with plans to continue stacking - at least in the near term.
Both of there strategies are now in jeopardy.
It is no doubt my fault that I am caught swimming without a bathing suit because I did not do enough in preparation for the hard stop. I just didn't believe it was going to be an effective ban. Binance had pulled out of Ontario several months ago, and with the help of my handy-dandy VPN to continue to use the platform.
Unfortunately, this time it was for real. I can no longer use most of the feature Binance has to offer. This means once my STX tokens unlock I will no longer be generating any APY on the Binance platform. This APY, however small, has been a constant backburner line item in my monthly tallies. This is no more.
I even tried to log in from Thailand to see if I could reopen my Earn orders, and was greeted with this screen.
So until Canada becomes more crypto and business friendly - highly unlikely - I will have to find another platform to farm APY. KUCOIN seems like the most likely alternative, but I am not overly confident with them. I have no problem with KYC requirements but I have been left on read for mine for 3 weeks now.
Unsurprising that the Canadian banking oligarchs would create such a toxic environment for crypto companies seeing as anti-trust is just not a consideration in this country. I worry that all legitimate yield providers will be forced to leave as well.
Is CRYPTO.COM any good? Does anyone have any recommendations for a platform where I can earn APY on my Bitcoin and maybe even hold my BNB.
Or I may just swap my BNB into BTC and give up on Binance all together.
