Coinbase Pro Disables Trading As Bitcoin Tests $14K

On October 27, COINBASE Pro temporarily disabled trading on its platform amid feed issues, according to the exchange’s status page. Trading continues to be disabled as officials monitor the solution.

  • Coinbase first investigated the issue on October 27, identifying the issue shortly before 17:00 PDT
  • Most trading books had returned to full trading mode with the expectation of 10 books which remained in limit only mode; an hour after, Coinbase began investigating issues concerning order cancellation and account holds 
  • The team implemented a fix at 22:30 PDT, which it continues to monitor; trading remains disabled
  • Coinbase has faced downtime on multiple occasions in 2020, which has been the subject of much criticism; this particular episodes comes as Bitcoin (BTC) tests the $14,000 mark
  • The exchange went offline during the market crash in May 2020, as well as during the Bitcoin rally in April 2020
  • The community response has been harsh, noting that the exchange often goes offline when Bitcoin’s volatility increases
