Ethereum 2.0 Crashes on Test Network

The Ethereum 2.0 testnet crashed on August 15, according to statements put out by developers on Twitter. The issue has been confirmed to do with Prysm and clock sync. 

  • Prysmatic Labs co-founder Preston Van Loon said that Prysm clients experienced a global outage for 90 minutes
  • An emergency hotfix was released soon after 
  • Developers and the community alike highlighted the importance of testing before the mainnet 
  • The final Ethereum 2.0 testnet was launched on August 4
  • Ethereum 2.0 brings proof-of-stake to the network and sharding to the network
  • Expected to be released in a phased manner starting from sometime towards the end of the year
