A non-profit organization in Arkansas is attempting to lure remote workers to the state by offering $10,000 in Bitcoin.

According to a report by CNBC, the Northwest Arkansas (NWA) Council is offering remote tech professionals and entrepreneurs $10,000 in Bitcoin to bring their skills and wealth to the state.

The non-profit claims Northwest Arkansas is experiencing “explosive growth in the tech sector,” specifically within blockchain technology. The nonprofit says offering a Bitcoin-based incentive embraces the “growing trend of cryptocurrency as a payment option” via employers.

The NWA created the incentive as part of their “Life Works Here” campaign, which is funded by the Walton Family Foundation. First launched in 2020, the original award was paid in cash, but now offers remote workers the opportunity to accept their incentive in Bitcoin.

The report reads,

While we’ve had overwhelming interest in the initial incentive program, we’re continuing to seek out unique and in-demand talent in the STEAM and blockchain professions.

Remorse workers must relocate to Northwest Arkansas within six months of acceptance to the program and sign a one-year lease or buy a home. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 24 years old, have at least two years of work experience, be a U.S. citizen and currently live outside of the state of Arkansas.

The NWA Council is also offering remote workers a gift bicycle, in an effort to highlight the region’s extensive mountain biking trails, or a free membership to local theaters and museums.
