Brave: 19 Million Users | Not Accepting New Referrers

On the eve of Brave passing 20 million Monthly Average Users (MAU), BRAVE announced they will no longer be allowing new users to sign up for the Brave Referral Program.

What this means:

  • Existing referrers should see no changes and may continue collecting rewards for successful referrals.
  • This will not prevent new content creators from verifying web platforms and receiving tips from audiences.
  • This change only applies to those who are not presently in the referral program as of October 8, 2020.

There were also a couple other updates from over this summer that flew a little under the radar:

Brave identified a few select areas where there was a concentration of fraudulent referrers in specific countries. Effective Thursday, June 11, 2020, the Referral Program was paused for new Creators in the following countries:

  • China
  • Indonesia
  • Russia
  • Ukraine
  • Vietnam

All users will continue being compensated in BAT for electing to receive ads through Brave, and payouts will continue normally through Uphold.

While this is a bummer for new users looking to capitalize on Brave's generous referral program, it is a moment of reflection to pause and admire the tremendous growth and progress Brave has carved for itself in a highly competitive and monopolized market. Formerly dominated by FireFox and then Chrome, Brave is growing at an impressive pace and is on pace to see the 100 million user mark in the not too distant future.
