5 games to play in quarantine

During these strange times, we thought it would be nice to present 5 blockchain games worth checking out.

Blockchain games are seeing a rise to prominence in 2020 due to some key features not afforded to traditional games. The phrase ‘true ownership’ has been bandied around quite a lot, but what does that mean?

The introduction of NFTs or Non Fungible Tokens means that gamers now using blockchain games can actually own their in-game assets for real. Blockchain and NFTs allow them to store, trade, sell, and auction items when they are no longer required, or to make a profit.

When compared to traditional games, such as Fortnite. Where in-game assets are centrally owned by the game developers and users spend small fortunes. Players are fundamentally just renting assets. If the game were switched off – the players would lose everything.

With that explained it becomes clearer why blockchain technology can bring an exciting evolution to gaming.

Take some time to explore and play these five blockchain games.

1. Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is a game where you can breed (create new) and battle with your own army of cute Internet Monsters called Axies.

In Dec 2019, Axie introduced their new Community Alpha version of the game. It’s available for iOS, Android, PC & Mac. Axie presented users with the Small Love Potions ($SLP) and this is when the simple play-to-earn model was born.

Axies are fantasy creatures that inhabit Lunacia – an open-world owned, operated, and controlled by players. Lunacia is under attack! It’s up to you and your Axies to help the Princess fight off creatures called Chimera while rebuilding and strengthening the Kingdom.

2. Upland

How about virtually roaming San Francisco (and soon other regions) to discover real-world addresses you want to own. Once you are the proud and “true owner” (thanks to blockchain!), you’ll earn some UPX, the in-game cryptocurrency.

Want to make more? Well, you will have to work for that: Complete a collection of properties with the same characteristic and – boom – you’ll get a boost. Or go treasure hunting and punch some of those pinatas. Don’t need a property anymore? Flip it on the marketplace for UPX and – soon – for fiat currency.
