Introducing Darkblock, a cutting-edge Web3 tool for creating unlockable content.

This week the Darkblock team announced a new version of their publishing app, just in time to be featured at NFT.NYC. A Darkblock is an unlockable add-on for an NFT stored on the blockchain. Only the creator of the NFT can create – and sell – a Darkblock.

At app.darkblock.io you can add darkblocks to existing NFTs on Ethereum, Polygon, Tezos, Solana and Avalanche, with more chains coming soon.

“Unlockable content is a missing skeleton key in Web3 that will enable thousands of new use cases and creative ecosystems. Our goal is to enable new and existing creators to bring video, books, music, podcasts, e-learning, really any kind of distributed content, to Web3 in new ways,” said Darkblock CEO Chris Seline.

You’ll also be able to use Darkblock technology first-hand as they’re partnered with photographers across various parties and activations to generate and distribute unlockable NFT event photos.

Outside of NFTNYC, Darkblock is pushing for easy integration of the protocol with existing NFT marketplaces. They launched their first major partnership with Solsea, followed by Kalamint. Additional partnerships will be announced soon.

They’re also focused on the rental potential for the protocol.

“Rental is really important. Darkblocks’ content rental model will allow millions of people to interact with unlockable content through pay-per-view, subscriptions, and other novel ways of monetizing the access. It’s a game-changer in the space,” Seline added.

Finally, the Darkblock API gives creators access to more tools to upgrade NFTs with unlockable content. Creators can update entire collections of NFTs to enable subscription-type access a la Patreon or Onlyfans, and even target NFTs by traits to create tiered access to content.
