Axie Infinity, an Ethereum-based collectibles game with PvP battles, has released a major update to its marketplace.
According to the announcement, the update has added and consolidated a number of key features. For example, all Axie Infinity NFTs are now located in a single marketplace, including Axies, Land and items. The update also brings improved filtering, with categories for Axies that include stats, breed-count and body parts.
“This launch is the first step in ensuring that volume in our ecosystem multiplies exponentially in the coming years by bringing greater liquidity, price discovery, and item ownership to our community,” stated the Axie Infinity team.
Ultimately, Axie Infinity believes there are benefits to having its own marketplace when many other blockchain games have chosen to rely solely on third-party marketplace providers like OpenSea.
“We believe that operating our own in-house marketplace gives us an advantage over other projects by allowing us to carefully tailor the user experience to fit our product,” added the team. “In addition, we believe in aggregating liquidity in one market rather than having fragmented volume. We expect these advantages to compound as our adventure continues.”
Axie Infinity has seen some of the highest single-NFT sales in recent months. One of the recent examples was a “Quad Mystic” Axie selling for 70 Ethereum (ETH) on OPENSEA back in November.
The marketplace update comes several weeks after the company behind Axie Infinity, Sky Mavis, raised $1.5 million from several investors including Hashed, Pangea Blockchain Fund, ConsenSys and 500 Startups.
